Furthermore, one might even find a patch on those golden Costa Del Sol beaches without having to stake a claim at 7 a.m.

It might sound like one of those clichéd tips for travel, but hear me out. If you are flexible around the travel dates like flying on a midweek day, avoiding school holidays, then you can probably get away with some significantly better deals because the airlines always hike their prices on weekends. Besides, many of these towns have their own allure and are just short train or bus jaunts from the bigger attractions. Therefore, you will have the best of both worlds while not paying Marbella prices for your morning coffee.
4. Save on Sleep: Affordable Costa del Sol Hotels and Rentals
Here’s the deal: you can find affordable Costa del Sol hotels that are clean, comfortable, and close to the beach. Beyond the flashy resorts you get to discover family-run guesthouses, boutique hostels, and self-catering apartments that offer the best bargains ever.
One of my favorite stays was a small B&B in Fuengirola, literally a stone's away from the sea. The rates there were less than half compared to the resort prices, with breakfast comprising fresh churros and Spanish omelet! What else can one ask for?
Want to save even more? How about renting? So much fun sharing one tiny apartment-space with a kitchen especially when traveling with your friends or family; great excuse to try out local cooking with market-fresh materials.
5. Ditch the Taxis: Use Public Transport
It is amazing to note that the Costa del Sol possesses a very efficient public transport system. Buses and trains serve almost all coastal towns; they are inexpensive, reliable, and easy to navigate, even for those with limited understanding of Spanish, enough to get a taste of tapas.
I once traveled from Málaga to Torremolinos by train for the price of a café con leche. No kidding. Instead of spending €40 on a cab from the airport, hop on a train and save your money for beach cocktails.
6. Beach Life Doesn’t Have to Cost a Thing
In fact, bumming it up on most costa del sol beaches is absolutely free. Of course, you can rent a sunbed for a few euros, but if you’re cool with a towel stretched under a palm tree, you’re golden.
From the broad, family-friendly sands of Playa de la Malagueta in Malagueta to hidden coves near Nerja, every type and budget has its beach. Bring your food, sunscreen, and you have a holiday all day for practically nothing.
7. Eat Like a Local
Let’s talk food—because it’s Spain. While the meal need not be elegant, it must satisfy certain eligibility criteria.
With a firm walking towards their eventual goal of sustenance value, one must agree not to stop at an occasion with laminated English menus and so-called beachfront cafes, but to press on up to a tapas bar filled with other locals eating excellently affordable food in the range of a few euros. A cold beer and a plate of grilled sardines? Heaven. And usually under €5.
Some towns even still follow the old tradition of free tapas with your drink. It’s like winning the food lottery.

This is what I learned from my travels; the best things happen when you least expect them. Among the best parts of spending the holidays in Costa del Sol happened on the few occasions I wanted to steer clear of a schedule. There was that time I happened to find myself at a local feria and ended up past midnight dancing under glowing paper lanterns, my feet standing on a floor sticky with spilled drinks next to very friendly strangers.
